Problem: Need for Improved Assessment Quality
The quality of assessments used by American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) for physician board certification needed improvement to ensure learner understanding was being measured effectively. Through these assessments, physicians demonstrate their commitment to furthering their competence, judgment, and skills needed to improve the quality and safety of medicine.
Solution: Develop Engaging Video Training
By working with Diffusion Studios, the ABMS team was able to develop a short and interesting video illustrating how to write application of knowledge assessment items for use in training physician content experts. With the hectic schedule of the
physician audience in mind, concepts were condensed and presented in a creative way to maintain engagement.
Result: Widespread Adoption and Mandatory Training Integration
The co-developed videos have been viewed thousands of times across multiple platforms and have been incorporated into the training protocol for new American Board of Medical Specialties item writers. These writers are required to watch the videos prior to receiving any writing assignments.
When asked about the decision to work with Diffusion Studios, ABMS had this to say:
“Great group of experts who think outside the box.”
– K. Holtzman, ABMS, Director Assessment & International Operations
“High quality people and content.”
– D. Swanson, ABMS, Vice President Academic Programs & Services (former)
